Woohoo! We did it! Not only was Hongyun Art a big part of the Cupertino City's Earth Day Festival with our awesome plaza-wide chalk mural, face-painting, and glitter tattoos, but we actually just became certified as the Bay Area's very first art studio certified in the Bay Area Green Business program!
Hongyun Art already was very green to begin with - we have always recycled all of our art materials to reuse and re-purpose them in our student projects as well as our own uses in the school. In late 2012, we installed the latest all new LED track-lights that have the proper color temperature to bring out the bright colors of our student's artwork--this switch reduced our lighting energy consumption by at least 70% at peak operation and it also reduces our heat load generated in the school to reduce our AC energy consumption as well!
With the Green Business certification, we've adopted a super-green purchasing policy to source art and office supplies that are environmentally responsible. That means high recycled content paper products, green cleaning supplies made of natural ingredients, as well as a host of other process upgrades to ensure that we are in fact the most environmentally responsible art school around!
Our green partnership with Cupertino City also extends to an art installation created by Hongyun art students, parents, and staff! Cupertino asked us for a creative way to let citizens know about their new online building plan submission to reduce paper usage and consumption in the city. We devised a project created out of the very building plans the city has collected as well as off-the shelf building materials as well as all-natural rice glue to create a "paper tree" in the lobby of Cupertino City Hall!
There you have it, not only is Hongyun Art the most creative place to learn and grow, it's now the greenest too!
