Eco House Art Supplies

It's no doubt that becoming an artist can be hazardous to your health (and I don't just mean mental health). The chemicals in most art products are quite toxic. Now comes Eco-House , a line of non-toxic supplies for painters. Hongyun is going to have to try these.

Trashy

One normally wouldn't look to a trash company as a source of avant-garde art, but this is Northern California, after all. NorCal Waste Systesm has had an Artists in Residency Program since about 1997. Currently an artist who goes by the name of Andrew Junge is in residence at their recycling and waste processing center (I hope they have good air filtering at the studio). He created some interesting installation and large sculpture pieces. His styrofoam Hummer is genius.

Paper Art

There's a special place in my heart for paper. Why? Well, the tree-killing aspect is not good, but it is still a viable art medium. Take Paper Forest for example. This site catalogs all of the fun things you can do with paper. Talk about cool!

It seems the Japanese do take their origami quite seriously and use it as a marketing tool.

Wall Street Journal Artist

Her art is instantly recognizable (especially if you're a Wall Street Journal fan). But check out her collage...those are some seriously cool looking works of art made from old magazines. Color Rules of Thumb

Are you color confused? If so, then you may need this: Color Rules of Thumb. While it doesn't have all the answers, it's pretty handy for helping you pick a starting point for color choices. Use it well.

Keeping a Daily Journal

micah j bauer [graphic journal]

Artists and designers are frequently encouraged to keep journals. Micah Bauer took this advice and put everything online....it's an interesting look at art journalling.

A good book for this is:

So you want to be Software Engineer, huh?

I'd reconsider that (especially if you're younger). Looks like creativity rather than logical skills are going to be the commodity of the future...

Wired 13.02: Revenge of the Right Brain

Logical and precise, left-brain thinking gave us the Information Age. Now comes the Conceptual Age - ruled by artistry, empathy, and emotion.
